The Carbon Markets Association of India (CMAI) is a leading industry-led, not-for-profit organisation advancing “Environmental Action to Environmental Value” by unlocking market opportunities and accelerating India’s low-carbon, net-zero transition.
CMAI serves as a collaborative platform connecting government institutions, industry, project developers, financial institutions, think tanks, and technical experts. Through policy advocacy, capacity building, industry matchmaking, strategic partnerships and carbon project development facilitation, CMAI works to strengthen India’s carbon economy and translate climate ambition into practical, scalable opportunities.
CMAI engages with key ministries and institutions, including the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Ministry of Power (MoP), Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), NITI Aayog and State Governments, supporting policy dialogue, knowledge exchange and industry participation in climate and sustainability initiatives.
CMAI’s work spans India’s evolving environmental markets, including the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS), Article 6 of the Paris Agreement (Articles 6.2, 6.4 and 6.8), Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCM), Green Credit Programme (GCP), Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Plastic Credits, and Nature Based Solutions. Through stakeholder engagement and policy recommendations, CMAI contributes to discussions on market development, environmental integrity, regulatory frameworks and alignment with relevant national and international mechanisms.
